Description:
Illegal opioid suppliers show no sign of slowing down. In August 2019, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) issued an advisory to address the opioid crisis by providing a set of red flags associated with the trade of the pharmaceutical. The advisory highlights that there are confirmed links between transnational criminal organizations and the sale of fentanyl.
This webinar will look at recent law enforcement actions like Operation Darkness from the Northern District of Ohio to help dissect the growing problem and how financial institutions can combat it.
You Will Learn How To:
- Review the opioid crisis including the trafficking of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids and why it matters for financial institutions
- Evaluate how transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), foreign fentanyl suppliers and dark net internet purchasers located in the U.S. engage in the trafficking of fentanyl and the subsequent laundering of the proceeds from such illegal sales
- Assess the recent FinCen Advisory including key red flags and the use of shell companies to mask beneficial owners
