Interviews are a vital part of many fraud examinations, and a fraud examiner’s ability to obtain information or admissions during an interview can often make, or break, a case. This 3-day , interactive course will teach you how to be more effective in asking direct and follow-up questions, while evaluating both verbal and non-verbal responses, so you can uncover the truth during interviews.

Course Outline

Day One

  • 10:00 – 11:20 a.m. Preparing for the Interview

    Interviewing is an art, and perfecting this art form requires focus and planning. In this session, we talk about how to effectively prepare for an interview, from determining the most appropriate time in an investigation to interview a specific party to identifying your own strengths and weaknesses and how they affect the interview process.

  • 1:20 – 2:40 p.m. Interview Goals and Strategies

    This session will walk you through the elements of a successful interview. Learn how to define the interview goal, identify the skills needed to execute an effective interview, and develop an appropriate interview strategy.

  • 2:50 – 4:10 p.m. Questioning for Quality Information

    This session will include an in-depth discussion of a variety of methods for formulating questions that will assist you in dealing with any type of witness you may encounter. Learn to analyze the information provided by the witness to assist you in formulating questions that will ensure you obtain the best information possible from the interviewee. This session will also include a discussion on the proper methods to use when confronting a reluctant witness.

Day Two

  • 10:00 – 11:20 a.m. Is That the Truth?

    In this session, you will learn the various verbal and nonverbal clues to deception, including changes in speech patterns, selective memories, oaths and character testimony, anatomical physical responses, and other indicators.

  • 11:30 a.m. – 12:50 p.m. Interviewing Witnesses and Victims, Part 1

    This session is the first of two that cover interviews with witnesses and victims. This session focuses specifically on the listening skills and accommodations that interviewers must navigate in these interviews, including the adaptations and considerations that remote interviews require.

Day Three

  • 10:00 – 11:20 a.m. Interviewing Suspects, Part 1

    In these two sessions, you will learn about all aspects of admission-seeking interviews. Learn to prepare the interview room for effective communication and the best methods for confronting the suspect.

  • 1:00 – 2:20 p.m. Admissions and Signed Statements

    Proper use of the techniques learned during the prior sessions could very well result in an admission from the suspect. In this session, you will discuss how to obtain admissions from even the most reluctant suspect and how an effective statement should be written.

Our cancellation policy is intended to keep costs low for attendees. Due to financial obligations incurred by ACFE, Inc. you must cancel your registration prior to the start of the event. Cancellations received less than 14 calendar days prior to an event start date are subject to a $100 administrative fee. No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received on or after the start date of the event. Those who do not cancel and do not attend are responsible for the full registration fee. Should an event be cancelled or postponed by the ACFE due to unforeseen circumstances, ACFE will process a full refund of registration fees within 30 days of such circumstances becoming known. ACFE will attempt to notify affected customers by phone and email after it determines cancellation is necessary.
