Shell Games: Investigating Shell Companies and Understanding Their Roles in International Fraud (Webinar Archive)

Shell Games

CPE Credit: 2
Course Level: Advanced
Prerequisite: Experience with the nature and establishment of shell companies, their purpose and use in disguising potential fraud

Description:

Do you really know who your vendors and customers are? While you may have a name on a contract, an email address, a physical address and a bank account, it doesn't necessarily mean they are legit. If they are a shell company, how would you know? More importantly, how would you investigate them to know for sure?

In this course, enhance your investigative knowledge of shell companies and learn how they are used by international fraudsters.

You Will Learn How To:

Recognize how shell incorporator services are used, how shells are layered to protect the true owner’s identity while leaving them in control and which registered agent names are red flags

Identify which banking regions are more suspect than others, which locations have a higher risk of shell incorporation and what the location can tell you about the entity

Evaluate a company’s web presence, website and domain structure in order to vet the entity and possibly uncover additional investigative clues
