ACFE Mentoring Program

This program allows you to connect one-on-one with another member and improve your career.

The ACFE Mentoring Program connects ACFE members to anti-fraud professionals from all over the world. The program facilitates a mentoring relationship that can lead you to a wealth of resources, experience, advice and guidance.

How the ACFE Mentoring Program Can Elevate Your Career

Participating in a mentoring relationship is rewarding for both parties. While it’s common for the mentee to accomplish a career goal, there are several other benefits for both the mentor and mentee. A few of these benefits include:

  • Exposure to new perspectives
  • Improvement on leadership skills
  • Forging lasting relationships
  • Overall professional development
As a participant in the ACFE Mentoring Program, mentees are responsible for identifying a specific goal to achieve. Here are a few common goals mentees work toward in the program:

  • Preparing for the CFE Exam
  • Seeking a raise or promotion
  • Landing a job as a new anti-fraud professional
  • Shifting to a new specialty in the anti-fraud profession
  • General professional development or learning a new skill
  • Deepening knowledge in a current area of the anti-fraud profession
These are just a few of the possibilities, and there are several resources provided to assist mentees in developing a strong goal to focus on throughout the program.

Participating in the ACFE Mentoring Program can help you achieve your career goals with more focus and more efficiency. You’ll meet individuals with the same passion for fighting fraud, and along the way, you might even make some lifelong friends.
Come with an open mind and seek to gain perspective. Don’t be scared to discuss your current challenges and fears. A mentor’s experience is often just the advice you need. Mariam Afzal, CFE, CPA

How the ACFE Mentoring Program Works

The mentoring program is an online tool — including a searchable database — and it is user-driven, allowing mentees to search among enrolled mentors to find individuals whose experience and expertise match the areas where mentees wish to learn and grow in their anti-fraud careers.

Here is some key information about the program:

  • Enrollment is free for all ACFE members.
  • Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs) can earn 2 CPE credits through the program.
  • You can enroll at any time, and you can match with a mentor or mentee during the designated matching periods.
  • There are two sessions per year. The first one starts in January and the second one starts in July. Each session lasts six months.
  • There is a month-long matching period before each session begins.
  • Participants can choose to meet by phone, video chat, email or in person (once it is safe to do so).
  • We recommend committing to one hour per month to meet with your mentor or mentee(s).
The best part of the program was its success; not only did I complete my study and acquire my CFE credential two months into the program, but I became employed as an auditor shortly after that. Lisa Smith, CFE
