Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Credly?
Credly is an online badge platform that works with organizations to provide digital credentials to individuals worldwide.
Is there a fee for me to use Credly?
No. This is a service we provide to you at no cost as an ACFE member. We hope you take advantage of this new benefit and enjoy the convenience and recognition afforded by the badging program.
How can I use a digital badge?
Digital badges can be used in your email signatures or digital resumes, and on social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Displaying a digital badge gives you a way to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide employers and peers concrete evidence of what you had to accomplish to earn your credential, and what you’re capable of. Credly also offers labor market insights based on your skills.
How does the digital badge verify my certification?
The technology Credly uses is based on the Open Badge Standards maintained by IMS Global. Open badges are web-enabled versions of a credential, certification or learning outcome which can be verified online in real time. This enables you to manage, share and verify your credential digitally.
How will I access my digital badge?
You will receive an email notification from Credly (firstname.lastname@example.org) with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account. Click here to view the Credly Earner User Guide. Please note that setting up an account with Credly is required to accept and share your badge.
What if I don’t want my badge to be public?
You can easily configure your privacy settings in Credly in order to hide any badges — you’re in complete control of what information you want to make public. Click here for instructions to manage your Credly profile privacy settings.
Can someone else copy my badge and use it?
While the badges appear to be simple digital image files, they are actually linked to unique metadata hosted on the Credly platform. This link to verified data makes them more reliable and secure than a paper-based certificate or traditional image of a logo. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.
How and where can I share my digital badge?
You can share your badge directly from the Credly platform to LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook; over email; embedded in a website or in your email signature. Visit the Credly Help Center for step-by-step instructions for sharing your digital badge.
Can I export badges issued through Credly to other badge-storing platforms?
Yes, you can download your badge from the Share Badge page. Your downloaded badge contains Open Badge Infrastructure (OBI) compliant metadata embedded into the image. This allows you to store your badge on other OBI-compliant badge sites, such as the Mozilla backpack.
Can I import badges issued from other platforms into Credly?
Not at this time.
I have a question about the Credly platform. Where can I find support?
You can find more detailed information about the Credly platform here: support.credly.com. If you have a question specifically related to the ACFE’s use of the digital badge program, please email MemberServices@ACFE.com.
What other benefits can I access through Credly?
In addition to providing a digital badge you can share, Credly also offers labor market insights which are pulled from live job requisitions. Based on your skills you can learn which employers are hiring, what job titles you might be qualified for, salary ranges and more. You can access the labor market insights from your badge details page by clicking on “Related Jobs,” or by clicking on the skill tags assigned to your badge.
Will Retired or Inactive members be issued a digital CFE badge?
No, digital badges will only be issued to active credential holders.
What happens to my CFE badge if my credential gets suspended for CPE non-compliance or my membership status changes or expires?
If you are not an active member or have been suspended for any reason, your CFE badge will reflect that you are not an active credential holder.
My membership is active, and I am not currently in CPE suspension, but I can’t find my badge in my Credly account, or my badge says it is expired. Where can I find my current badge?
Double check your membership and certification status in your ACFE.com account. If you’re currently active and certified, with no CPE suspensions, but you can’t view your CFE badge in Credly, please email MemberServices@ACFE.com.
What personal information does ACFE share with Credly?
The ACFE provides Credly with your (credential earner) first name, middle name (if appliable), last name and email address, defined as issuer data.
Is Credly GDPR Compliant?
Credly is GDPR compliant with the terms of the GDPR. Credly maintains ongoing confidentiality, integrity and resilience of their systems that process personal data of badge earners.
