Office of the Inspector General for the National Reconnaissance Office Officially Recognizes CFE Credential
July 28, 2008 - AUSTIN, TX -- The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) recently announced its official recognition of the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential for hiring and promotional purposes. Globally preferred by employers, the CFE credential denotes proven expertise in fraud prevention, detection, deterrence and investigation.
“The training and programs provided through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners are considered valuable to the National Reconnaissance Office, Office of Inspector General,” says Eric Feldman, Inspector General. “We fully endorse the Certified Fraud Examiner designation and will continue to recognize it for hiring and promotional purposes…[and] will continue to encourage all staff to enhance their professional credentials through the inclusion of the CFE designation.”
CFEs are knowledgeable in four major areas critical to the fight against fraud: fraudulent financial transactions, criminology & ethics, legal elements of fraud, and fraud investigation. To become certified, members of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) must meet education and professional experience requirements and pass a rigorous exam.
The role of the NRO is to warn agencies like the Department of Defense and the Central Intelligence Agency of potential problem areas around the world, examine the environment, and aide in military operations through the use of reconnaissance satellites which the NRO designs, builds, and operates. “The Office of Inspector General (OIG) provides independent oversight of NRO programs and activities through audits, inspections, and investigations [and]…safeguards public trust by promoting integrity, accountability, and sound management practices through objective and independent oversight of NRO programs and activities.”
This recognition is part of the ACFE’s Law Enforcement Partnership program. The program was created to assist government agencies at the federal, state and local levels, both domestic and international, by providing various discounts and benefits upon recognition of the CFE credential. “It is clear that the program would be of further benefit to our office and staff,” says Feldman.
The Office of the Inspector General for the National Reconnaissance Office joins the ranks of government agencies such as the FBI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Government Accountability Office, the Department of Defense and U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of the Inspector General that have officially recognized the CFE credential for employees.
