How to Start a Student Chapter at Your University

If your university does not already have a student chapter, we invite you to start one. You will need to follow your university's guidelines for forming official student groups and then contact the ACFE at Chapters@ACFE.com. Follow these steps:

  1. Nominate a faculty advisor at your university and get their agreement to serve in this capacity.
  2. Follow your university’s guidelines for establishing a student chapter. Generally, universities will require the chapter to submit student chapter bylaws.
  3. Assemble a minimum of eight students who meet the basic ACFE student membership requirements. Appoint members to the necessary board positions; president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
  4. Schedule your first meeting where students can sign up. The ACFE can supply applications and promotional literature for the first meeting.
  5. Complete a Student Chapter Charter Application and your Student Chapter Bylaws. Send these documents, along with a copy of your campus’ written approval for the chapter to the ACFE at Chapters@ACFE.com or mail them to ACFE headquarters. If the student chapter members are not already student members of the ACFE, you will also need to send applications and membership fees for those chapter members.

Once you’ve completed these steps and the required materials have been received by the ACFE, you will be notified that you have fulfilled all necessary requirements and that a student chapter has been chartered at your university.
