Project Buff was headed by the Halton Regional Police Fraud Project Team in the spring of 2024. The investigations focused on an organized crime group responsible for orchestrating sophisticated SIM swap and account takeover frauds, causing significant financial damage to several of the "Big Five" banks and individual victims.
This case study explores the investigation from end to end, with the lead investigator detailing how law enforcement was able to stop this group and dismantle one of the largest and most sophisticated counterfeit document laboratories in Halton Police history.
