Ryan C. Hubbs, CFE, CCEP, CIA; Tony Prior, MBA, CFE, CAMS; and Elizabeth J. Simon, CFE, CPA, took their oaths of office as newly elected members of the Board of Regents during the Board’s semi-annual meeting on Feb. 8 at ACFE headquarters in Austin, Texas.
The Regents elected Alexis C. Bell, M.S., CFE, PI, to be chair and Vidya Rajarao, CFE, ACA, to be vice chair. They elected Hubbs to be secretary; Simon, treasurer; and Prior, assistant treasurer.
Since the 2017 spring meeting of the Board of Regents, the ACFE added six new chapters including those in Denmark, Italy and Egypt. As of publication, the ACFE has 182 chapters in 65 countries.
Board members reviewed pending disciplinary matters awaiting recommendations from the Board of Review. The Board of Regents also reviewed ACFE committee reports and appointed new committee members to replace outgoing members.
The Board reviewed the report of the working group of CFEs that recommended modifications and revisions to the ACFE rules of conduct. The new rules were posted on ACFE.com on March 15. ACFE Research Director Andi McNeal, CFE, briefed the Board on planned CFE Examination improvements to further enhance the security of the exam process.
ACFE Membership Director Ross Pry, CFE, and ACFE Communications Director Kevin Taparauskas, CFE, gave a presentation to Board members on the ACFE’s overall membership growth and the initiatives that the association is taking on in the year ahead. As the ACFE continues to expand globally at a faster pace each year, much of the discussion centered on programs targeted at accelerating this international growth including adding additional chapter training and support as well as growing the ACFE partnership programs such as the Corporate Alliance and Authorized Trainer Program.
The next meeting of the Board of Regents will be held during the 29th Annual ACFE Global Fraud Conference on June 17 in Las Vegas.
Nominations will open on June 1 for two positions on the ACFE’s 2019-2020 Board of Regents. An application is included in the May/June issue of Fraud Magazine and can be found starting June 1 at ACFE.com/BOR.
“Every CFE wants to make a positive impact in the fight against fraud,” said Alexis C. Bell, M.S., CFE, PI, chairman of the Board of Regents. “One way CFEs can achieve this is to serve on the Board of Regents for the ACFE. I encourage every CFE to apply for consideration, regardless of your geography, sector or industry. Being elected offers an invaluable opportunity to provide your unique perspective, insight and leadership to help guide the future of the largest fraud-fighting organization in the world.
“Under the ACFE bylaws, any CFE in good standing may apply for a position on the Board of Regents. The self-nominating process is open to each of you. Right now, in this very moment, you have a chance to make a difference,” Bell said.
The Nominations Committee will select six applicants to vie for two available positions in this year’s election. Beginning Nov. 1 and ending Dec. 31, certified members of the ACFE will vote for their selections for the two new board members. The new Regents, who will be installed in February 2019, will each serve two-year terms.
Following are the key dates in the Regent election process:
June 1: Nominations open
July 31: Nominations close
Sept. 9: Nominations Committee selects final candidates
Nov. 1: Ballot available
Dec. 31: Balloting closes
