Every day, anti-fraud professionals like you choose a career rooted in integrity. You ask hard questions and follow evidence. You protect people, organizations and communities from harm.

At the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), we have the privilege of supporting your work. And as part of Member Appreciation Day, we asked staff across the organization to reflect on what makes this community so unique.

One truth rose to the surface: ACFE members are deeply committed to their craft, invested in one another and driven by a shared mission to fight fraud.

A Community That Invests in Itself

Staff often describe ACFE members as people who never stop learning.

“Our members are full of a passion that at the individual level is inspiring, but when combined is a powerful force,” said Mandy Moody, CFE, Vice President of Communications. “I’m humbled by what happens when anti-fraud professionals work hand in hand to uncover information never intended to be discovered and then communicate it in a way that creates real change.”

That commitment to growth is not abstract. It shows up in how members support one another when preparing to earn the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential and professionals around the world connect through online communities to share ideas and ask questions.

The ACFE has grown into a global organization, which ACFE members are directly responsible for. Fraud does not stop at geopolitical borders, and neither can the sharing of experience and insight. Being part of a vast, coordinated network opens doors for learning and growth, allowing members to learn from cases, perspectives and approaches beyond their corner of the world.

At the same time, so much of what strengthens this network happens locally, through members that devote their expertise and energy to benefit the profession.

“Working closely with ACFE chapter leaders has shown me how much members give their own time to create places to learn and connect,” said Joe Broccolo, CFE, Chapter Development Manager. “Seeing that dedication up close is one of the most meaningful parts of my role.”

Meeting Members Where They Are

The work fraud examiners do is complex. The stakes are high and time is limited. That’s why when staff talk about service, they rarely describe a single process or program. Instead, they speak about how they try, in simple and often quiet ways, to help remove friction.

Because your time is so valuable, and because we know the anti-fraud profession moves forward when barriers are reduced, care often looks like:

  • Staying on the phone until the question is resolved.
  • Following up before being asked to.
  • Walking you to a session rather than pointing down the hallway.
  • Making sure you reach a real person when you need assistance.

“The quality of service we aim to provide is built into every process we create and illustrated in every interaction we have.” said Moody.

For many ACFE team members, that mindset has been true for decades. It has been reinforced and modeled over time.

Ross Pry, Vice President of Membership, has been with the organization since 2006 and sees this same mindset reflected across teams and across time.

“The small things have always mattered,” Pry said. “A Member Service Representative staying on the phone to talk through the certification journey. Leadership collecting badges and thanking attendees for coming. Hearing someone in a meeting ask, ‘How will this benefit our members?’”

Since the ACFE’s inception, the goal has always been connection. The organization was founded by Dr. Joseph T. Wells, CFE, CPA, on the idea that progress happens when people and disciplines work together. That same spirit shows up today in how staff meet members where they are, listen closely and help create space for learning and collaboration.

Why This Work Matters

Supporting fraud fighters means more than answering questions or developing resources. It means bearing witness to the dedication, care and intention you bring to your work every day. Over time, that commitment leaves an imprint on the people who are here for you every single day.

“Having a shared mission really does create a community that feels like family,” said Yasmin Hoffmann, CFE, PMP, Educational Production Director. “Whether at an event or during a networking conversation, there’s a natural camaraderie that comes from working together to fight fraud.”

For some, that sense of community becomes real in a single, defining moment.

“Meeting a CFE a decade after they first attended the ACFE Global Fraud Conference as a scholarship recipient was the first time my eyes really opened to how special our members are,” said John Duffley, Communications Director. “We crossed paths at the same conference in 2025, and she showed me a photo she had taken with ACFE leadership 10 years earlier. Seeing her journey, and how the ACFE supported it, made the impact of this community feel very real.”

For all of us at the ACFE, moments like these are reminders of why we do the work. Not to chase metrics or milestones, but to play a part in the greater good by moving the profession forward.

“Our members do important work,” said Joshua Amell, CFE, Membership Director. “They help protect people and bring justice to those who have been swindled. If I have a small part in helping them do that, my work, too, is meaningful.”
