"While tips have historically been the most common means of detection in our surveys, the percentage of fraud discoveries attributed to tips in 2008 is quite a bit greater than in 2006" according to the 2008 ACFE Report to the Nation on Occupational Fraud and Abuse. A global study by PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2007 echoed this finding.

In addition, the Report to the Nation found that median losses in organizations with no hotline were more than twice as high as in organizations with a hotline in place ($250,000 versus $100,000).
