Together, Reducing Fraud Worldwide
On-Site Exam Information
The on-site CFE Exam is only for course attendees and will be administered in written form. The on-site exam follows the same format as the electronic exam: 125 questions per section. You will read the questions and mark your answers on a Scantron answer sheet. An ACFE staff member will grade the tests on-site, providing your results for each section within a few minutes.
We highly encourage CFE Exam Review Course participants to take the CFE Exam on-site following the course. Below are some recommendations for preparing for the course, requirements for taking the exam and details about the on-site exam.
Advance Study and Preparation
We recommend using our CFE Exam Prep Course to prepare for the CFE Exam. Upon registering for the Review Course, you will receive the download version of the Prep Course. Before you begin the Prep Course, please reference the course guidelines for more information.
Monday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.: Investigation
Tuesday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.: Law
Wednesday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.: Financial Transactions and Fraud Schemes
Thursday, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.: Fraud Prevention and Deterrence
During these times, you may also take or retake other sections of the exam as needed. All exams must be turned in by 7:00 p.m, Monday – Wednesday and 5:00 p.m. Thursday. Please note no exams will be issued after 5:30 p.m Monday – Wednesday or after 6:00 p.m. Thursday.
Taking the exam on-site is optional.
If you fail a section of the exam, you may retake it either on your own computer or on-site during any of the times listed above. There is no charge for retaking sections. You will only need to retake those sections that you do not pass.
If you pass all 4 sections, you will receive a personalized letter confirming your achievement. Passing the exam does not mean that you are certified or eligible to use the CFE credential until your CFE Exam application has been submitted and approved by the ACFE certification team. Upon certification, your certificate will be mailed within 2 to 3 weeks.
