Name: Bethany M. Dorris, CFE, CISA
Chapter Name: Middle Tennessee Chapter
Position on the Chapter Board: Secretary

What do you do for a living?

I am a Legislative Information Systems Auditor with the State of Tennessee Comptroller’s Office.

Why did you decide to get into this field?
I have always been fascinated with computers. After college, I worked three years as a programmer/analyst and decided programming wasn’t for me. Becoming an IT auditor has allowed me to work on fraud and forensics cases while still working in the computer field. Most importantly, it has allowed me to make a difference for the State of Tennessee.

How long have you been involved with the chapter?

I joined the chapter in 2006.

How long have you been a board member?

I was elected to the board in 2008.

Why did you become active with the chapter and the board?

After attending a chapter meeting as a guest, I decided I wanted to be a part of this dynamic group of people who shared a common interest of detecting and preventing fraud. The chapter also provided excellent opportunities for networking and education.

What has been a highlight during your time on the board?

A highlight during my time on the board and as the newsletter editor was receiving the Chapter Newsletter of the Year award in 2011 at the 22nd Annual ACFE Fraud Conference in San Diego. I have also had the opportunity to attend three previous ACFE fraud conferences held in San Diego, Washington, D.C. and Las Vegas.

What goal or achievement do you hope to accomplish during your time on the board?

I would like to see the chapter continue to increase membership, recruit great luncheon speakers, provide free training and continue to have one of the best chapter fraud conferences.

When you’re not working, or managing chapter activities, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy spending my time with my family and my dogs, Smokey and Macy. I enjoy being outdoors, riding hunter/jumper horses, spending time on the lake, reading and working out.
