Study Tips

TIP #1 - Preparing for the CFE Exam begins with a conscious decision to start studying. We recommend that you begin studying with your strongest area to develop a comfort level with the material and the Prep Course process. To begin a session, select one of the four main sections and begin answering the questions. After you choose an answer and click the Submit Answer button, the answer you chose, along with the correct answer, will be displayed in a bar in the middle of the screen.

TIP #2 -  Do I have to take the Pre-Assessment? No, you do not have to take the Pre-Assessment; it is optional and can only be taken one time. It is designed to identify your topical strengths and weaknesses, which will allow you to structure your work with the CFE Exam Prep Course effectively and efficiently.

TIP #3 - The Fraud Examiners Manual gives you a more detailed explanation of the answer to each study question. ,

In this videoACFE Vice President - Education, John D. Gill, J.D., CFE, offers advice on how to take advantage of the Fraud Examiners Manual, which is included with your CFE Exam Prep Course.

TIP #4 - Stay focused. This is the key to a good understanding. If you are studying at home, choose an area that will serve as your study headquarters. Make sure you have good lighting, minimal distractions, and enough room to be comfortable. Disconnect your home phone, turn off your cell phone do whatever you can to stay focused on your studies.

Topic: CPE Prep Course (International vs. US Version)

Post: Anyone has concern about which version should buy for self-study? I want to know the difference between these two versions: CFE staff informed me that US/Canada versions "are written specifically for the legal environments in each respective country."

I assumed this means the difference is only in the Law section. For the other three sections, they are the same. Am I correct?

If this is the case, what is the content in the International Law section?

I am eager to know about it because I have a dilemma here: I am working out of the US now, for a US company, and it is very likely I will go to the US or Canada to pursue my future career in about one year. Therefore, it is really hard for me to decide which version I should take.

Please help.

Response: Dear Yan Ma, Thank you for your question. Yes, the other three sections are essentially the same. If you are not sure which country you will be working in primarily, I would suggest that you purchase the International edition. Instead of focusing on laws specific to a country (like the US and Canadian editions do) the International Edition focuses on broad legal concepts that are applicable many places around the world.
