Details of the CFE Exam

All members are required to pass the CFE Examination in order to earn their CFE designation. Containing 500 objective and true/false questions, the CFE Exam is administered via computer so it can be taken at a time convenient to you.

Preparing for the CFE Exam

It is important that you take the time to prepare for the CFE Examination. There are many different ways you can prepare, but two options are the most common:

  • Study on your own using the Fraud Examiners Manual and other additional reference materials. Approximately 90% of the CFE Exam's questions are derived from material contained in the Fraud Examiners Manual while the remainder is compiled from other study references.

  • Study with the CFE Exam Prep Course, a computer self-study course produced by the ACFE. Available in US, Canadian, International, Japanese and UK editions, the CFE Exam Prep Course mirrors the format of the actual exam and comes with a Money-Back Pass Guarantee. The Fraud Examiners Manual is included on the CD-ROM with the Prep Course.

  • The ACFE also has other various resources to help aid you in studying for the CFE Exam.
